Freyr's Last Stand
Surt fares from the south | with the scourge of branches,
The sun of the battle-gods | shone from his sword;
The crags are sundered, | the giant-women sink,
The dead throng Hel-way, | and heaven is cloven.
-Voluspo, v52, Belows Translation
Freyr, Norse god of fertility, rides into battle at Ragnarok atop his dwarven-forged golden boar, Gullinbursti. Having given his magic sword away in order to woo a beautiful giantess, Freyr is armed with only an antler as he faces Surtr, the king of the Fire Giants.
