Fateful Signs Oracle Deck

Fateful Signs presents an Oracle Deck filled with 35 beautifully illustrated paintings featuring the Gods, Goddesses, Lore and Legends of the ancient Norse folk. Using the symbols and stories of the Vikings you can delve into your own divinatory practice. A project over a decade in the making, now is your chance to seek your own Fateful Signs Oracle Deck!

The Cards

The cards are 3.5” x 5”, each displaying a unique Viking inspired full color oil painting. The deck comes with a box to hold your cards, and a booklet that illuminates each card with aspects of lore and questions to ask during a reading. The booklet also includes a simple overview of Norse Mythology and three unique spreads designed to work with the Fateful Signs divination system.

What Are Oracle Cards?

Oracle cards are similar to tarot cards, and are often used for divination and personal meditation. As you can see they sound basically like tarot cards, the main difference is tarot has a set number of cards and suits and oracle decks are not bound by those rules.

What does the Fateful Signs Oracle Deck Focus On?

The Fateful Signs Oracle Deck focuses on the various themes and stories prevalent in the legends and lore of the Norse people. There are numerous gods, goddesses, spirits, and other supernatural entities that populate these stories.

Oracle Decks, Divination, and Intent

The Fateful Signs Oracle Deck has been created for your personal use and is primarily intended for entertainment and inspiration. As the decks creator I have a deep love of ancient Norse lore, and hope it comes across through my art and writings.

Types of Spreads

You can of course pull a single card or create whatever types of pulls or spreads that inspire you. This is after all your deck. That said, perhaps you will find some of these spreads inspiring.

The Path of the Norns

Norns are spirits of fate responsible for shaping the course of our destiny. There are many Norns of all shapes and sizes, but the three most famous are the women who tend to the well in the World Tree that nourishes its roots. Their names are Urth (fate or wyrd), Verthandi (to become), and Skuld (need to be, ought to be, or shall be). The well they tend is called the Well of Wyrd, or the Well of Fate. It is in that well that the great deeds of humankind eventually dwell.

This is a simple three card spread where the first, second, and third card represent past, present, and future.

Dwarves at the Corners

Four dwarves hold up the corners of the sky. Their names are Northri (North), Suthri (South), Austri (East), and Vestri (West). The sky is a dome crafted from the skull of Ymir, the first being, and the giant who birthed the first gods and other giants. Odin and his brothers carved him up to make the world.

This is a five card spread. The center point draws its energy from Ymir’s skull. It is a cerebral energy, that of the mind, and it represents you. The southern card represents where you have been, where you come from, and the past influences that effect your current situation. The east card shows you the things that are influencing what is yet to come. The west card lets you know what is leaving you to make room for what will come next. The northern card shows you where you are headed.

Climbing the Tree

This is a complex spread that involves nine different cards that interact with one another. Three rows of three is the alignment for this spread. As there are nine worlds within the World Tree, each card in this arrangement represents the energy of one of the nine worlds. The tree also represents you, and the nine worlds are an aspect of self.
