Today I want to talk about the Norse Mythology book, “Days in Midgard: A Thousand Years On,” by Steven T. Abell.
I didn’t include “Days in Midgard” in my original post on Norse Mythology books because this book does something most other Norse Mythology books don’t do… It tells modern stories that feature the gods influencing the world right here, right now. It is a genuine attempt to advance the storytelling timeline of Norse Mythology. Just as the title suggests… “A Thousand Years On.”
When I first learned about the book I was intrigued because although other authors have used Odin, Thor, Loki, and the other gods and goddesses in literature, they did not write with the goal of moving the timeline forward. Their stories always felt borrowed or were alternate tellings. In my opinion, “Days in Midgard” doesn’t have that feel. The stories feel true, in the way of mythology.
I read the book cover-to-cover in just a few days. I enjoyed it and plan to read the stories again at some point in the future. If you like Norse Mythology, then this book is one worth looking into!
